Ok, so it's not very Beachy

So yes, it's a beach scene, but not all fun and sun. In fact, the fog that came in was so thick it made for a wonderful isolating element to things. I have much more to post from that foggy morning, but this one stood out immediately.

No picture to go with this post, I'm at work now and technically I should be working. Technically. Anyway, the area is teasing us with warm(ish) weather and snow is but a distant memory. The next pics I post should be of sun, beaches, women in skimpy clothing. Okay, well maybe not the last one, but something non-winter related, unless Mother Nature pulls a fast one.

Water's Edge

The base of the falls, where the water disperses. Here the fog was really evident. Would have liked more snow/ice, but we went too late in the year, next time I'll visit in December.

New places

Since the area was so empty, I could go exploring and discovered a river nearby. Here you can see the moisture from the melted ice accentuated the colours of the fallen leaves, and the moss on the rocks. Add in the fog and quietly moving river, and this was the perfect shot.

Upstream

Shot of CrabTree Falls upstream. Not as heavily frozen over as a few years ago, so not as dramatic, but the fog helps give the place a sense of isolation and mystery.

It also helped that there were only three people (myself included) there.

There's a fungus among us

Fallen tree totally covered in fungus. The fog in the background helps to contrast the colours.

Yeah I went there

Back to CrabTree Falls, one of the coolest (pardon the pun) places I've ever shot. Back in 2009 in February the area was totally frozen over and the photographic results were simply stellar. This time around is was warmer, and so there was a blanket of fog everywhere, which made for some interesting effects.

This is shot aiming downstream, with an ultrawide lens (10mm) thus the exaggerated angles.

No, wait, I've got it!

It's Pacman! Granted, Pacman's seen better days (all that ghost chasing is starting to show) but all I need to do is add in small yellow dots on the right of the picture, and it'll be perfectly clear.

Right? Right?

Lol Wut?

I don't normally go for Internet memes, but if you've ever seen the image of the green 'pear' laughing, you'll know what the title references.

Also in the DC art area, it's a...well I don't know what it is. Maybe a bird, maybe a plane, perhaps even a Death Star.

Artists, who can figure them out?

This is a

cow. Of course, the sculptor says it's a nightbird, but what do sculptors know? I think it's a cow, look it has horns, a tail, pointy ears. I mean, ever seen a bird with ears? Of course not. It's a cow. Crazy artists.

New

I thought I'd found all the angel statues in the cemetery, but I missed this one. I really need to go back and re-take this shot with my Nikon F4s and some Kodak bw400cn film, it's a beautiful statue and I think it would turn out better in film than in digital.

Shiny

As you can see, as the clouds broke there was a wonderully blue sky behind, giving strong shadows, bright highlights and generally perfect pics.

Late as Usual

Delays, delays, nothing but delays. Yeah I've been late in posting, but I've been busy shooting in the Winter weather. Just after the last set was taken we had a light snowfall overnight, making for the perfect time for re-visiting the local cemetery. Here the sun was just starting to break through the clouds, giving me the perfect opportunity for some dramatic sky shots. All taken with my Nikon D1x.
