Things I Should Have Learned By Now

“The personal, as everyone’s so fond of saying, is political. So if some idiot politician, some power player, tries to execute policies that harm you or those you care about, take it personally. 

Get angry.

A quote, by a fictitious revolutionary. But it's a good quote, and although I keep politics, and religion, and my own non-photography related opinions off the journal, this one bears repeating. It's relevant and worth committing to memory.

Caption Contest

So I have a new snake, a Solomons Island Tree Boa, whom I have named Linus (on account of the fact she had a death grip on the wood branch when I bought her, and she wouldn't let go.)

Well Linus has been picky about food, so I bought an Anole for her to eat. At first, the Anole was scared and wouldn't go near Linus, and vice versa (dumb snake.)

One morning after switching on the lights, I was greeted with this. Brilliant, my snake isn't eatting the food I bought for her.
But the pose was too cute to pass up, and on a reptile forum (vaherps.com) I asked for a caption to go with this. Here is the winning caption, as posted by forum member Shanna.

The rest of you will just have to wonder if I've lost my mind.

Chocolate

Always a bit of mystery involved in buying a used lens. Like Tom Hanks said, "Used lenses are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get" (well, that's not exactly what he said, but it's close enough.)

In any case, this shot is from a used 24-70mm Tamron. Tamron lenses are all over the map quality/sharpness wise, simply because Tamron doesn't make all their own lenses. They are more than happy to slap their name on someone else's product, quality control be darned. Some Tamron lenses, the 70-300mm to cite a prime example, are pure garbage, chromatic aberrations abound and soft is the order of the day. Some, like this one that I picked up for a song and dance, is nice.

The advent of the Internet allows us to do research on a lens before buying it and save us the headache of buying a bad lens, but if you're like me, I like chocolate assortment sampler packs.

By the way, don't ask me why this head is on the side of a building, I have no idea.
