Total Mystery

During any move, commonplace things disappear and little used things...disappear as well. Case in point here, looking for something else entirely, I ran across two un-processed rolls of B/W film. Having no idea what was on them, I made the trip to my local developer and handed them over. 

As it turned out, not much exciting was on either roll, with this image being the highlight. Taken several years ago (at least) at a rodeo, this cowboy was preparing for his ride.

I don't recall any settings used, or even the camera I used, though I suspect it was the Nikon F4s and of course Kodak's BW400CN.

Portal

There are all kinds of hidden treasures in the city, you just have to find them. This for example, isn't one of them, but it's interesting all the same. It's the leftovers from a hydroelectric plant on the riverside.

I'm most impressed with the graffiti on the inner left side. Not quite sure how they got in there to do that, or why, but it adds a nice touch I think.

More film work

I was going to title this post "Soup and Quackers" (yuck yuck yuck) but there's no soup here, only my Mamiya TLR.

Shot with my Nikon f4s and dimestore B/W film under the natural light from a nearby window. This shot should have been with my Green Bank work, but frankly I'd forgotten about the roll and only recently found it.

Working with constraints

The following (or next, depending on how you read this journal) series of pictures are all taken with color film. Normally I don't shoot film in colour, only in Black and White. The reason for this change is I got a chance to go photograph Green Bank RadioTelescope in earnest.

Trick is, only film cameras are allowed, digital SLRs generate too much noise and interfere with their research. I'd shot at Green Bank before, but really didn't go prepared. This time around, however, I was ready with four rolls of Fujifilm, tripod, and a desire to walk around the area from sunup until I was all out of film.

The kind people at Green Bank let me walk around as I saw fit, and shoot what I saw. I am posting everything I thought turned out well, with a little commentary for each.

What's this got to do with the picture to the left? Nothing at all, but I didn't use up all my film at Green Bank, so I did a bit of shooting elsewhere. In this case, a National Wildlife Refuge whose name I cannot pronounce.

Whoops

Notice anything different about this image? Anything?

Yeah, it's in colour, except I don't shoot colour film. Somehow or another I ended up with a roll of colour film I thought was my usual Kodak CN400BW film.

Normally, when I'm shooting film, I'm approaching subjects in terms of contrast and shades of grey. I didn't realize the roll in my Nikon F4s was colour so most of the shots didn't turn out the way I wanted them to, but this one...I think was an improvement, so here it is for your approval.
